Russian museum is the right place to visit if you are interested in Russian art: while the Hermitage specializes mainly in European art, this museum has about 400000 items that trace the development of Russian art from icons to avant-garde of 20th century. A tour of the Russian museum will get you acquainted with masterpieces by such artists as Karl Briullov, Ilya Repin, Ivan Aivazovsky, Ivan Skishkin, Wassily Kandinsky and Kazimir Malevich.
