C – 189 is the second submarine you can visit inSt Petersburg. It is less well-known than Narodovolets, but in a way it is even more interesting as it is not on the shore, but right in water. C-189 is a medium-size diesel-electric torpedo submarine belongs to Whiskey-class – the most mass type of submarines, constructed in USSR after 1950-s. Inside the submarine you can visit all the compartments, and although some equipment is dismantled, the impression is still very strong. Tours there are guided by former navy people, but unfortunately they are only in Russian. You need to climb an almost vertical ladder to get inside the submarine, so if you are accompanied by ladies, sports clothes and shoes without heels are almost a must.
C 189 submarine is open from 11 to 19:00 (entrance till 18:00)
Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays
Adult tickets – 300 rubles, students -200, schoolchildren-100.
Address: Leutenandt Shmidt embankment, in front of house 31. It’s off the tourist track, but it’s within walking distance from Vasileostrovskaya metro station.
