Situated not far from the  Peter and Paul fortress, St Petersburg museum of political history may be interesting for those who want to feel what life in USSR was like and see documents and even some personal belongings of the leaders of Russia and USSR. Its collections cover a time span from the reign of Catherine II to the XX century. Unless you are interested in political history, it  may be  not the “first choice” museum and its exhibitions  may be hard to understand if you don’t speak Russian: although there are some commentaries in English , the majority of exhibits are different printed documents, letters and posters in Russian. Nevertheless, they have audio guides or you can book a guided tour in English for moderate price .

My favorite part of this museum are exhibits that make you feel the spirit of soviet time: you can see a part of recreated room of “communal” flat of 1930-s, look at Lenin’s study or feel our pride for Yury Gagarin looking at his uniform and personal belongings.
